We are looking to recruit an experienced and dynamic Public Health and Wellbeing Manager to temporarily cover a maternity leave.  As the Public Health and Wellbeing Manager you will offer strategic guidance in developing, implementing, and overseeing public health and wellbeing initiatives throughout Reading.

About the role:

With direct accountability to the Consultant in Public Health for Reading, this role holds significant importance in enhancing the health and wellbeing of residents in Reading. As necessary, you will act as the Deputy for the Consultant in Public Health and will be responsible for offering expertise on various public health matters to colleagues within the council and other relevant stakeholders.

During the period of maternity cover the successful candidate will be responsible for implementing the Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy locally and ensuring that it meets the evolving needs of the local population.

The post holder will oversee the supervision our experienced Public Health Programme Officers who are responsible for the public health and wellbeing programmes and services including our local Recovery College Manager and Neighbourhood Partnerships Manager.

This role serves as a strategic connection between Reading Borough Council and the Public Health team at West Berkshire Council. Together, we will collaborate closely under the guidance of our shared Director of Public Health.

About you:

You will have advanced skills in analysing Public Health evidence and data to ensure all areas of the Team’s work programme is effective and offers best value for money.

You will have demonstrable experience in managing change and managing people.

The post holder will need to utilise their strong leadership and interpersonal skills working in partnership and developing relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including other local authority services areas, the NHS and the voluntary & community sector to improve the health of local residents.

You will be experienced in managing a broad portfolio of work with competing demands.
